How to Apply for a South Carolina Business License
- 1). Create an online account with the South Carolina Business One Stop service. The SCBOS is South Carolina's online business portal. The service allows business owners to apply for most business licenses and permits. Both the retail and use Tax licenses can be applied for through the service.
- 2). Obtain a paper application for the business personal property license. The application for this type of license is not available on the SCBOS Service. However, the form can be obtained through the South Carolina Department of Revenue's Form Respository (see Resources).
- 3). Complete each license application by providing information about your business such as the name, legal entity, EIN number, a description of the primary activities of the business and the business's contact information. The retail and use tax licenses can be submitted to the state directly through the SCBOS service. As of December 2010, there was a $50 fee for the Retail license and no fee for the tax licenses. The Business Personal Property form should be returned to the South Carolina Department of Revenue, Property Division; Columbia, SC 29214.
