How to Catalog French Books
- 1). Look up words in the title in a French-English dictionary to determine the subject of the book. Find that subject in the list of Dewey or LC classification numbers. If your book is a work of fiction, it may be cataloged and shelved in the fiction section, but the library may prefer to gather foreign-language books together sorted by language.
- 2). Enter the book's call number, title, author and other information into the library's database or type a card to be inserted in the card catalog.
- 3). Create a label with the book's call number and affix it to the book. Place the book on the appropriate library shelf in the proper call number order.
