Definition:

Carbohydrates are a source of energy and include foods composed of starches and sugars. Almost all carbohydrates are found in plants, with the exception of dairy products. They are the most common source of energy found in food. Most carbohydrates break down into glucose. They can be complex or simple.

Examples of complex carbohydrates: whole grains and vegetables

Examples of simple carbohydrates: table sugar, honey, and fruit
