How to Measure Replacement Drip Pans
- 1). Remove the current drip pans. If you have an electric stove, make sure the stove is unplugged and cool. Remove the burner by gently pulling on the plug that connects the burner to the stove. Rock the burner back and forth until it comes free. Remove the drip pans by lifting them up from the stovetop. If you have a gas stove, all you have to do is lift up the grate on the top of the stove and then lift the drip pans.
- 2). Using a tape measure, measure the inside of each drip-pan hole in the top of the stove. You'll need the measurement of the inner diameter of each hole, not the outer diameter of the pan itself. There is a lip on the drip pan that makes the outer diameter bigger than the labeled size. Measure straight across the hole to get the diameter. If you have rectangular drip pans, make sure that you measure both the short and long side of the rectangle to get the correct measurement.
- 3). Purchase new drip pans. Round drip pans come in standard sizes of 6 inches or 8 inches in diameter. These pans come in a variety of finishes to match your stove. The square and rectangular drip pans come in varying shapes and sizes, so if your stove has square or rectangular drip pans, make sure you measure carefully before buying.
- 4). Drop the new pans in the correct holes on your stovetop. Replace the electric burner element or the cooking grate on a gas stove.
