Your automatic pool cleaner may be working perfectly and doing a fine job keeping your pool clean. However, there are a few pool cleaner maintenance tips that all pool owners should routinely perform to get the most years of performance from your pool cleaner.

• Periodically check your pool vacuum power/water flow. This is to ensure your pool cleaner is operating as efficiently as possible. A pool cleaner can have too much suction power, which is just as dangerous as too little.
• Routinely check to make sure your pool cleaner's hose is securely attached to its suction source in the pool wall. A pool cleaner without proper suction power may be something as simple as a loose hose connection.
• NEVER coil your pool cleaner's hose. A coiled pool cleaner hose will create a memory in the hose that will prevent your pool cleaner from having agility in your pool. When you store away your pool cleaner, lay out the hose in straight sections.
• Before your backwash your pool filter, ALWAYS disconnect your pool cleaner's hose from the suction source in the pool. Turn off the valve so it doesn't restrict water flow during the backwashing process.
• Use the handle. Most pool cleaners come with a handle for lifting. ALWAYS use the pool cleaner's handle when taking the pool cleaner out of the water or when placing it into the water.
• NEVER pull on the hose to reel in your pool cleaner. If the hose becomes unattached from the pool cleaner while it's turned on and operating, your pool cleaner can be damaged.
• Protect your pool cleaner from pool chemical damage. If you are going to treat your pool water with pool shock or a large dosage of chlorine, you should properly remove your pool cleaner and hose before doing so.
• Store the pool cleaner properly. When your pool cleaner is out of the pool water, disconnect the leader hose from the pool cleaner head and store the cleaner in a clean, dry place.
• Protect your pool cleaner from damage by swimmers. Swimmers can accidentally damage your pool cleaner and hose. You should ALWAYS remove the pool cleaner and hose when you know swimmers will be using the pool.
