San Diego is a popular vacation spot along the southwestern coast of California. The city is known for its warm weather throughout the year and miles of sandy beaches. There are plenty of things to do in San Diego during the day, but if you are looking for a little fun at night, the city also boasts several night time attractions. - Ray at Night is a popular art event held the second Saturday of every month along Ray Street in San Diego. More than two dozen businesses participate. Along the streets, visitors will find a variety of artwork including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, sketches, blown glass and jewelry. Visitors can also find live music, poetry readings and performances by dance groups. According to the North Park Main Street website, the event draws more than 1,500 people each month.

northparkmainstreet.com - The Haunted Trail of Balboa Park is a popular night time attraction in the fall. It is open September through October every year. Along the haunted trail, visitors can step into the "Carnival of Carnage;" a 3,500 square foot maze lit with black lights and haunted by people dressed as clowns. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets in 2010 cost $14.99 per person.

The activities change every year. In 2009, the zoo held a puppet show. It also premiered a new show called SOAR: A Symphony in Flight. According to the zoo's website, it featured a variety of free flying birds, lights and music. Tickets in 2010 were $27 for a one-day pass.

Called "Sky Tonight," it presents the San Diego sky in its planetarium and also covers various topics in astronomy. This event in 2010 cost $9 to $10.50 for visitors. Afterwards, you can stargaze outside the science center in Balboa Park. According to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center website, the San Diego Astronomy Association sets up huge telescopes outside for guests to view the stars in the sky.
