How to Trim a Loose End on a Dreadlock

    • 1). Wrap a coated elastic band around the dreadlock about an inch above the end you want to trim. The Dread Head HQ website suggests wrapping the band tightly, and using two bands if the first one slips at full tightness.

    • 2). Using sharp scissors, cut the dreadlock at a diagonal angle below the elastic band, leaving some room (enough to twist the hair) beneath the band for the end to re-dread after the loose hair is removed.

    • 3). Hold the tip of the dreadlock with long-nosed pliers and backcomb any remaining loose hair up to the elastic band. Dreadlocks.org recommends applying another coat of wax to the ends after tending to loose hair.

    • 4). Twist waxed hair by gently rolling it between your fingers until the ends are knotted and secure another elastic band around the end. Use a band the same color as your hair if you don't want it to be noticeable.

    • 5). Cut off the original elastic bands (the ones above the band you just added). The new elastic band at the bottom will keep the dread from unraveling.
