Chantix works by preventing the nicotine in cigarettes from effecting chemicals in the brain. Thus, the cravings for nicotine will diminish over time. Usually, individuals will need to take Chantix for about six months to stop smoking.

    Side Effects of Chantix

    • According to the Mayo Clinic, those individuals taking Chantix may experience nausea and excess gas. In addition, they may have headaches. Constipation and insomnia may also be bothersome. Some individuals report experiencing strange dreams while taking Chantix.

    Zyban

    • Zyban is also known as Bupropion. It works by decreasing the cravings for nicotine. Zyban works best when it is taken for at least 12 weeks.

    Side Effects of Zyban

    • According to the Mayo Clinic, Zyban most commonly causes anxiety and irritability problems. Also, headaches may occur and skin rashes may occur. According to drugs.com, other side effects include dry mouth and insomnia.
