The Bates method for better eyesight was researched and started by William Bates, an ophthalmologist in New York during the late 1860s and early 1900's.
After graduating from Cornell University College of Physicians, he wrote a book about his alternative techniques used for better vision. His self-published work is called the Perfect Sight Without Glasses.
