Dampwood termites are termites that feed, live and nest in any wood that is damp.
Therefore, the best way of dealing with this termite is to take away the moisture so that they cannot thrive there.
What can be done is to replace any old or rotting wood with fresh timbers which are dry.
If the option of replacing is not available, you can opt to apply poison or preservatives onto the wood so that the termites will not be attracted to it.
You could also open the wood up and allow ants to feed on them.
Either way, keep the area where the wood and timber are dry so that dampwood termites will not be attracted to it.
The drywood termites, on the other hand can handle wood with little moisture.
For this termite, you could fumigate them with pest toxic as it would kill them.
If you know for sure where they thrive, you can use the spot treatment, which is to apply poison directly on the infested area.
Another method is to tent the affected area and heat it up.
They will die in extreme heat.
They would also die in extreme cold, so if you have a boat lying around that may attract termites, you can take it for a splash in a cold river during winter, or if the wood is small enough, put it in a freezer.
Last but not least are the subterranean termites.
