The John Brown Wax Museum, however, tells the story of the abolitionist from his youth to his famous raid and execution. On Oct.16,1859, Brown and 17 men tried to steal weapons from the federal armory in Harpers Ferry. The raid failed and Brown was eventually hanged. The incident was one of the events that launched the Civil War.
