Where do you go if you want to watch the big game, grab a bite and a beer? DFW certainly has its fair share of sports bars and wing places. The Hub is a large sports bar in Addison that caters to all types of sports. I visited it during football season and I can see that it's a great place to watch some gridiron action. Owned by a Texas Longhorn alum, it quickly became an official home to Texas Tech Red Raider fans on game days (love that!).

Word is that you have to arrive long before kickoff to get a seat. (Guns up!)

There are plenty of TVs (8 HD projector, 28 flat screens) and no bad seats in the house. You won't miss a play.

Location/Hours

The Hub Sports Bar and Grill is located at 4145 Belt Line Rd. Addison, Texas 75001. (Belt Line near Midway on the north side of the street). 972-385-3558. Hours: 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily.

The Menu

The Hub has an incredible menu featuring all your favorite bar snacks and then items that you might not expect from a sports bar. I was lucky enough to attend a media event with a 4-course dinner celebrating their spectacular menu items! I got to sample some delicious dishes and was surprised that healthy items were actually on the menu.

But don't worry. You'll still find wings, burgers and typical bar food galore. But it's good to know that there are some healthy alternatives if you're keeping with the New Year's Resolutions.

What I Sampled

Mandarin Lettuce Wrap: I have to say that I'm a huge fan of lettuce wraps.

They're finger foods. They're fun. They're messy. That's ok with me because they're a delicious alternative to some foods you might find on the menu. I'm on a "Life Diet" so I'm always looking for lower-calorie options and things that might not make it to the deep-fried State Fair of Texas menu. Romaine lettuce leaves stuffed with chicken, sriracha yogurt sauce, sesame slaw and smoked gouda. The lettuce wraps got my vote for delish and I would definitely order them again! $8.

Deconstructed Whitefish Jambalaya on a Zucchini Chip: Wow! Blackened Whitefish served over spicy jambalaya piled on a blackened zucchini chip was an amazing blend of flavors. I love the iconic 'Nawlins dish (I devoured it during Jazz Fest in New Orleans earlier this year) and I'm glad that Texas restaurants are giving it a place on our menus. $11.

Sunday Pot Roast: Now you have my attention. I grew up in Texhoma on roast dinners after church on Sundays. Roasted garlic mashed potatoes and The Hub's Famous Mac & Cheese, you will not go wrong ordering this dish. (You can also get To Go orders!) It's a hearty dish that will warm you up on a cool day for sure. This tasty Mac has several types of cheeses blended together and a crusty topping that will be your favorite soon too.

Other Menu Items catching my attention were the Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Monster BBQ Shortribs and London Style Fish & Chips. Mmmm. Must go back soon! Oh and the Tortilla Soup looks pretty tasty as well. I'd like to sample this dish because I'm known for my Tortilla Soup recipe. I'm always looking for inspiration!

Games

Although I didn't participate (because of the potential for extreme embarrassment), The Hub has a great virtual golf simulation game. Just stand in the area and whack a ball with a driver and aim for the pin. It's that simple. And difficult. Golf is one of those games that anyone can play -- but few can play well. But it's the perfect place to grab your buddies and play like you're really good on the course -- but maybe not as accurate on the simulated version. I won't tell anyone otherwise.

If golf isn't your sport, there are plenty of pool tables and video games for your enjoyment.

Don't Miss

I suggest you try something new on the menu. If you normally go for burgers and nachos, try one of the specialty items like the pulled pork sandwiches or short ribs. Don't miss the free popcorn and wing bar.
