Western Tanzania Safari Holidays

Not overly popular with mainstream tourists, a Western Tanzania safari is best suited to travellers hoping for a more adventurous and intrepid experience. Plan to stay for at least five days in the region to explore the forest-filled parks and surroundings. The country's dry season, between the months of June and November, is the optimal visiting time for your Tanzania safari as the roads and pathways tend to be more user-friendly. The lack of animal watering holes also tends to work in favour of the tourist during this period as they flock towards rivers in the quest to sate their basis need.

Great Places to Visit

The unspoilt lands of Katavi National Park seems to tick all the boxes of dream Tanzania safari destination. Its remote location means a lack of crowds and a feeling of exclusivity, as it is only accessible via plane. Rubondo Island National Park is practically teeming with incredible wildlife and beautiful birdlife. Lined with beaches, the area offers only very limited luxury accommodation and you'll feel like the only people left in the world - perfect if you are looking for a stress-reliving Tanzania safari. Alternatively, if you prefer the bustle of crowds nip on over to Zanzibar where you'll find activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving and spice tours in this old trading town.

Find Chimpanzees on Your Tanzania Safari

Ever think you would be able to track Chimpanzees on your Tanzania safari? The western side of the country is, in fact, the perfect place to see chimps in their natural surroundings. You have the choice of two parks to visit, however, you must be aware only children over the age of 10 are allowed to participate in the excursions. As opposed to the dry season being the optimal time to visit the region, the wet season, between the months of December and April, is absolutely the best time to track these primates  - becoming easier to find as the abundance of water means they don't have to stray too far. However, the drier months do mean better photos. Gombe Stream National Park houses a number of chimpanzee groups and is where Jane Goodall made her discoveries on the genetic links between humans and chimps. At Mahale Mountains National Park you are able to enjoy the primate charms of not just the chimpanzees in residence but yellow baboons and the red colobus too. But whichever park you decide to visit, the memories of seeing these amazing creatures on your Tanzania safari will live with you forever.
