  Sparta, population 230 as of the 2000 census, is part of Gallatin County, and best known as home to the Kentucky Speedway. Race fans come from all over the country and world to enjoy the car racing. Located near the Indiana-Kentucky border, Sparta is just off of Interstate 71. Originally a stop along the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, the CSX railroad still passes through town. Sparta is also a popular stop for outdoor recreationists who enjoy the many parks and trails, as well as the nearby Ohio River and Eagle Creek which runs through town. Despite its size Sparta offers several lodging options for travelers.
