    Enrolling in Lessons

    • 1). Research on the Internet which dance schools a nearby Chicago neighborhood offer the type of dance class in which you're interested. Popular dance schools there include Arthur Murray Dance Center, Big City Swing and Intrigue Dance.

    • 2). Confirm the class schedule works with your lifestyle and that you can afford the tuition. Only enroll if it's possible to make at least 75 to 80 percent of the classes.

    • 3). Pay the tuition and print off the class schedule.

    • 4). Purchase the exercise clothes and type of shoes required (usually listed on the class schedule or dance studio's website).

    Attending Class

    • 1). Put on your comfortable exercise clothes and dance shoes.

    • 2). Arrive to class 15 minutes early to stretch. This will allow your body to be more limber once class starts.

    • 3). Listen carefully to the instructor and ask questions about specific steps if they're difficult or if the instructions are not clear enough for you.

    • 4). Practice at home at least two or three times per week to master the dance steps.

    Enjoying What You've Learned

    • 1). Use the Internet or view fliers posted in your dance studio to research local upcoming festivals in Chicago related to the type of dance you're in the process of learning.

    • 2). Dress in more formal or culturally appropriate attire and attend these festivals.

    • 3). Find someone at the festival to dance with and enjoy the hard work you've endured and the dance steps you've learned in the class.
