Naval Support Activities
- The Housing Office provides the active duty member with barracks if he is single or a house if he is married. Most housing is located within the Naval Support Activity; however, in some cases a family is referred to off-site housing. If there are no houses available at the station, for example, the Housing Office aids the military member in finding locations close to the Activity and offers counseling and guidance for lease-signing.
- The Morale, Welfare and Recreation program offers a variety of services, including discounted tickets to concerts, plays, theme parks and water parks. MWR centers also provide items such as tents, campers and RVs to the service member and her family for weekend or longer getaways. Some offer jet ski and boat rentals at a discount, costing significantly less than they would from a non-military provider. Other provisions include discounted entertainment as a thank you to military members and their families.
- The commissary is a full-size grocery store that offers several food and personal care items. There are no generic brands in the commissary, which accepts manufacturers' coupons on top of its already discounted prices. The commissary also stocks international fare, imported from countries like Germany, Korea and Japan. In addition to commissaries, "exchanges" can be found on Naval Support Activities, selling clothing, electronics, housewares and furniture at discounted prices.
- Temporary lodging is the military version of a hotel. Families assigned a permanent change of station moving to or from the Activity, as well as other traveling active military members, are eligible for temporary lodging. Rooms are significantly discounted, and members assigned to move receive seven days free. Lodging varies, from one-room hotel-style occupancy to three-bedroom and full-kitchen lodging for longer stays.
