Bumblebee Cake Ideas
- You can make a beehive cake and decorate it with candy, cookie or sugar paste bumblebees. Prepare a cake batter and bake it in a large, round oven-safe bowl. Allow the cake to cool and then turn it upside down onto a cake tray. Cover the entire cake in yellow buttercream icing, using a pastry bag with a large round icing tip. Make sugar cookie dough, roll it out and use bumblebee-shaped cookie cutters to cut shapes from the dough. Insert small, heat-resistant wooden skewers into the bottom of each cookie, bake the cookies and then decorate them with royal icing. Attach the cookie bumblebees to the beehive cake by inserting the opposite end of the wooden skewers into the cake.
- Make a cake in the shape of a flowerpot decorated with bumblebees, filled with cupcake flowers and topped with candy or chocolate bumblebees. Prepare a sponge cake batter for the flowerpot and bake it in a round oven-safe bowl. The rounded shape of the bowl will create a flowerpot shape for the cake. Cover the cake with stripes of black and yellow buttercream icing. Make fondant or cookie cutouts of bumblebees and press these into the icing all the way around the flowerpot cake. Bake a batch of cupcakes and cover them with swirls of black and yellow icing to make bumblebee-colored icing flower tops. Insert a wooden dowel into the bottom of each cupcake and insert the opposite end into the sponge cake flowerpot. Make bumblebee-shaped candy or chocolate lollipops and insert one into the top of each cupcake flower for a bouquet full of bumblebee-covered flowers.
- Make a three-dimensional bumblebee cake decorated with wings and antennae. For a large bumblebee cake, prepare two cake batters and bake them in one large and one medium-size oven safe bowl. Allow the cakes to cool and then cut the flat side of each cake to make the cake more circular. Place the large cake on a cake tray near one end and place the other cake next to the first so the cakes are touching. Cover the large cake with stripes of black and yellow buttercream icing and cover the smaller cake in yellow icing. Add fondant wings to the top of the cake and licorice for the antennae. To make the bumblebee a happy party centerpiece, give use black icing to give him eyes and a smile.
- Make an elegant-looking three-tier cake with black and yellow striped and decorated with fondant flowers and bumblebees. To make the cake prepare three cake mixes and divide the batter between two 10-inch cake pans, two 8-inch cake pans and two 6-inch cake pans. Allow the cakes to cool and then cover each cake with a thin layer of buttercream icing. Roll out six sheets of white fondant to cover each cake. Use green icing and a pastry bag with round icing tip to pipe vine-like greenery around each tier and make sugar paste flowers to attach to the greenery. Melt yellow and black candy melts over double boilers. Use a thin paintbrush to paint yellow candy melt stripes inside bumblebee candy molds. Let the candy dry and then pour in the melted black candy melts. Make approximately 100 to 120 bumblebees when using small bumblebee molds. Let the candy bumblebees dry and then place a dab of icing on the back of each and press them against the cake, all the way along the green vine-like icing. Top the cake with a fondant or plastic bumblebee figurine.
