  Gardendale is a suburb of Birmingham in northern Alabama. Though close to a major city, Gardendale itself has fewer than 12,000 residents and still maintains a small-town feel. The Gardendale and Birmingham area is home to large number of colleges and universities, including the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Samford University, Miles College, Southeastern Bible College and Birmingham-Southern College. A planetarium, museums, zoo and botanical gardens are also located nearby. Gardendale, Birmingham and other cities in the region offer many places to stay, and there are several motels and inexpensive hotels for those on a tight budget.
