Garrison Hardwire 120V Smoke Alarm Instructions
- 1). Choose a location for your Garrison smoke detector. Recommended positions are on a ceiling no less than 1 foot close to a wall or on a wall no less than 6 inches close to the ceiling.
- 2). Turn off power to the room and circuit on which you will be working. Cut the power at the circuit breaker.
- 3). Connect the electrical panel of your household to the circuit to which you will connect the smoke detector with 14/2 ROMEX® wiring. Trim the wire with wire cutters so that it spans the distance between the panel and the circuit with some slack. Strip about 1 inch of each end of the wire with wire strippers. This will expose the black, white, and red coated wires within the main coating.
- 4). Install an electrical box at the circuit that will be used by the smoke detector. This will hold the wiring in place within the ceiling or wall and protect the surrounding ceiling and wall from potential sparks produce by the electrical current if it has any problems.
- 5). Connect the smoke detector to the ROMEX® wiring. Twist together the wires on the back of the smoke detector to the wires stemming from the ROMEX® wire. Match the colors of each wire with one another. Wrap the twists with electrical tape or place wire caps on each one.
- 6). Secure the back side of the smoke detector to the location in which you are installing it. Insert and tighten screws through the mounting holes of the detector with a power drill containing a screw bit.
- 7). Place the cap over the back side of the smoke detector to cover the wires and interior workings of the detector. Secure the cap in place by turning it clockwise with your hand.
- 8). Restore power to the room and detector. Turn the power back on at the circuit breaker.
- 9). Test the smoke detector. Press the test button on the face of the detector.
