Coyotes and UFOs

This happened back in 1988 when I was 16. We were living in Truckland, California. One day I got into a big argument with my father. I was so upset that I went walking off into the foothills just to get away. I climbed up to a certain spot, sat down and did a lot of thinking. It soon occurred to me that I made the mistake of not realizing how late it was in the day to be venturing that deep into the foothills, so after a while I started climbing back down.

By the time I reached the main back road, it was pitch dark! And because I could barely see the road in front of me, I used the lights of the town as a guiding point. I remember the stars looking so brilliant that night. Suddenly, all around me I heard the sounds of panting and low muffled whimpering, like those coming from a dog. I knew what it was: coyotes! They encircled me and started snipping at my heels! This was a bad situation for me. I was doing my best to keep them at bay when suddenly I stumbled to the ground and by sheer luck landed on a long, sturdy piece of wood. I grabbed it and started swinging it hard. That really helped. I started walking a lot faster now, still swinging my pole until the coyotes backed off and left me alone.

I was halfway home when off to my right in a field I saw some tiny colored lights. They were blue, red and green. Some of them were blinking. All I wanted to do was to get back home, but I kept looking at these lights, wondering what they were. Soon my curiosity got the best of me and I stopped and entered the field in order to have a better look at these lights.

That's when I noticed a huge cone-shaped outline against the starry background. This big coned object blocked out the stars behind it. The mysterious lights were at the bottom, and the more I looked, it appeared those lights were inside some sort of compartment and a door was left open.

I was getting closer when suddenly I heard a lot of activity in the darkness. Sounds of people running, sort of. I got my stick and turned in all directions, ready to defend myself. I wasn't sure if the coyotes came back or what! I heard clanging noises coming from the object and I didn't see the lights anymore. That's when I decided I'd had enough for one night, so during the commotion, I ran back to the road and kept on running all the way home, never looking back.

A couple of days later some workers discovered a large circular depression in the field where I saw the lights.
