Yoga Basics: 6 Must Know Things for Beginner
Last week I was busy in watching a news show when a segment about a football class came in.
it was for the people who have "0" knowledge about playing football.
In other words, people like me.
The class was for helping the aspiring football lovers who wanted to learn anything that they needed to know ahead of Super Bowl.
It involved a teacher at the front of a classroom who was holding up a football helmet.
He started with the statement "This is a helmet.
" Since I don't have any interest in football, I'd never take a class like this.
But it made me think about my yoga students.
I thought about all the people who have no idea of yoga.
Just like football, yoga is also complicated and filled with several layers of information.
And actually, it is even more complicated because there's more room for the interpretation.
Often it can be overwhelming for people who haven't ever been a part of yoga community.
I know that there are several beginner yoga classes for breaking down the poses, but after attending that football class I started to think about some really obvious things which should be known by every person who was interested in learning yoga.
Here are some ideas that came to my mind:

The mat that you use for doing yoga is known as Yoga mat.
It helps you in gripping the floor so you don't slip and fall aside.
However, eventually you may fall anyway. - Yoga is a Sanskrit word that actually means "union.
" It's the practice of connecting our mind, body, breath, and soul. - The person who calls out yoga poses is your yoga teacher.
Importance of teacher varies from school to school, but as a common rule of thumb teachers are just guides in yoga.
They help you in achieving the proper alignment and share wisdom with you, but the really important part is finding the wisdom hidden inside you.
Wisdom resides in everyone and yoga tries to connect that wisdom to our body and breathe. - The language used most frequently by yoga teachers for describing poses is Sanskrit.
Don't care much about what they say at first-it's may just be a different way to describe poses and nothing else.
Instead focus on making the shape they describe using the words that you understand.
You can learn some basic Sanskrit words from here. - Yoga is not a religion.
So you can move on with the bits that work perfectly for you while leaving the rest. - Right and left are only some mere suggestions.
But whenever you practice stretches try to stretch both sides of your body equally so you stay balanced.
