    • 1). Blot the oil stain with paper towels, replacing the towels as they become soiled with the oil. Blot until no more of the stain is transferring onto the paper towels

    • 2). Cover the stain in liquid dishwashing detergent. Choose a detergent that contains no fragrance or dye.

    • 3). Blot the detergent with a paper towel two or three times to press it into the fabric and the stain. Let it sit for five minutes.

    • 4). Rinse clothing under hot running water and launder as usual. Check to see if the stain is completely gone before placing the item in the dryer. If not, clean again with the detergent and wash again.

    • 5). Blot up excess detergent with a towel soaked in hot water for upholstery and carpets. Blot until the detergent is completely removed. If the oil stain is still apparent, clean with detergent again until it's gone.
