Article marketing and web content writing are still important for many reasons.
Don't believe what you read about article marketing being dead, and keep in mind that Google still rewards well written web content above text that is written using bad vocabulary, grammar and spelling.
This is true regardless of the language you use.
Let's look at each of these in turn.
Writing articles for use in an article marketing campaign is fundamentally no different to web content writing.
In each case, the text must provide useful information to the reader, and not be overly promotional.
Readers get turned off if they find you are pushing a product or even promoting your own website.
Many believe article marketing to be dead after the Panda and Penguin algorithm updates of the past few years.
That is total nonsense, and here is why.
Is Article Marketing Dead? Absolutely not, although its focus has changed.
In the old days you could write one article, submit it to hundreds of article directories, ezines and blogs, and receive Google PageRank points for each publication.
Then came Panda and everybody panicked without fully understanding what the Panda update was intended to do.
This was, in fact, intended to drop the ranking of poor quality sites with thin content.
Panda Updates: Release 27 of Panda has just occurred, and will help small to medium-sized companies who regularly update their information.
Static sites, which rarely update their web pages, will likely suffer.
Panda tends to affect the entire website rather than just individual pages.
This where article marketing and good web content writing can help you benefit from Panda 4.
1 as it is popularly referred to, particularly if you frequently update your web pages with new, relevant information.
Penguin Algorithm Update: Then came Penguin, which punishes sites using too much promotional anchor text - 'Buy Now' and even your own product or business name.
This was intended to reduce the volume of contextual advertising links that have been appearing on websites, and are obviously providing competition to Google's own AdWords.
Another reason was to reduce over-use of the same promotional anchor text in your links.
Google prefers to see a good mixture of naked URLs and anchor text related to your own brand and products you are selling.
Duplicate Content: Another issue that many seem to have with article marketing is that of Google's "duplicate content penalty.
" There is no such penalty! Google itself says that.
If you publish an article on multiple websites, you will not be penalized for doing so.
Google will gradually remove the versions on the less relevant sites until eventually only one is left.
That's OK, because you will still get the benefit of multiple publications until Google reaches that point.
It is not a penalty.
Social Media: Where you gain is with social media.
When you publish your article on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and even as a video on YouTube, it stays there.
Visitors to those sites will see it.
You no longer need a search engine such as Google to find your article from its index: people will find it without using Google.
Unfortunately, Google is abandoning its 'Authorship' program because most people did not use it correctly.
That is similar to abandoning school exams because students can't answer them correctly! What's wrong with delisting those sites that don't use it properly and rewarding those that do: That would soon whip everybody into compliance! Putting Google's inadequacies aside, keep in mind that every version of your article is still on the World Wide Web: it is only from Google's index that it can disappear.
Google cannot prevent it being read on Facebook, Twitter or even LinkedIn! You get the benefit of these links plus an even more important benefit: you get live readers reading your article and being exposed to your link at the end of the article.
Web Content Writing Web content writing is equally important.
A 'weak' site to Google is one with little informative content.
By filling your website with page after page of good, well-written, relevant content, you will definitely benefit.
You will benefit even more if you change such content on a regular basis, which is why many of the top 10 web pages listed by Google for any search term is a blog post or even a forum thread.
In some ways, Google may be shooting itself in the foot with this approach, because many people seeking information are not interested in opinion - which is what blogs and forums tend to offer.
They want authority sites with genuine information that answers their questions or solves their problems; not the thoughts or opinions of others.
Social Media Rule! You no longer have a great need to go with Google's flow, so long as people continue to flock to social sites for their information rather than traditional search engines.
All you need do is learn how to use social networking to your advantage as an advertising platform.
So how is all this connected with web content writing? First, make sure that your content is relevant to the theme of your website.
A page explaining the difficulties of generating electricity by wave motion is relevant to a website or blog on natural energy sources, but not if your site relates to entertainment.
That's obvious, I know, but some people...
Secondly, make sure it is written well: grammatically correct (common colloquialisms are permitted) with no spelling errors, and also factually correct.
It's not just Google that hates such errors, since it operates from programmed algorithms, but also human readers.
Redtop newspapers get away with bad puns and common colloquialisms, but not with blatant poor grammar and spelling.
Third, keep on topic and try to make every article or web page solve a problem or even just suggest one.
It must be worth reading or nobody will read it! You want people to click on your links, whether these are sales links or even links to another of your websites.
With article marketing, the entire objective is to persuade readers to click to your site.
They will only do that if they believe that you or your site has something to offer.
Article marketing is not dead! Good web content writing is very important! If anybody tells you different they are either Googlephiles blind to its issues, or have never heard of the power of social networking and how sites such as Facebook are beginning to take over from regular search engines for online advertising and sources of information.
