    Medical and Clinical Laboratory Technicians

    • This type of tech job requires that the worker perform medical laboratory tests that help with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases. The average annual income for these techs is $37,860. Most are employed in hospitals, earning $38,820 a year, while those that actually work in medical and diagnostic laboratories earn less at $35,590 annually, as of a 2009 Bureau of Labor Statistics report.

    Radiologic Technologists and Technicians

    • Radiologic techs, also known as radiographers, work in medical facilities and take diagnostic images such as x-rays, CAT scans and mammographies. The average income for radiologic techs is $54,180 annually. Most work in either hospitals for the average salary of $54,770 or the offices of physicians at $50,860, though a higher salary can be earned in medical and diagnostic laboratories at $57,250 annually.

    Network Systems and Data Communications Analysts

    • This type of technician works with network systems such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), analyzing, designing and testing out the systems for other organizations. The average income for systems techs is $76,560 a year. Most of these techs work in the industries of computer systems design, wired telecommunications carriers and the management of companies and enterprises, all of which pay over $78,000 annually.

    Science Technicians

    • From nuclear science to agricultural and food science, technicians interested in science can follow one of several different career paths. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, biological science techs working for the federal government earned $39,538 as of May 2009, physical science techs earned $55,527 and forestry and conservation technicians earned $42,733 annually.

    Engineering Technicians

    • Engineering experts may find tech jobs in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering and more. The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that the median annual income for aerospace engineering and operations techs as of May 2008 was $52,150, while the median income for environmental engineering techs was $39,510. Civil engineering techs earned a median income of $43,880, industrial techs earned $43,760 and electro-mechanical techs earned $44,580 annually.
