Three DIY Abstract Art Ideas
These three do it yourself abstract artworks are super easy to make and a cost effective way of adding art and color to your home. Better still, all three artworks can be created by anyone, no matter your level of artistic talent as they either require you to do a simple task such as shake a camera, or drag paint over one section of a canvas.
Create your own version of Rebekah's do it yourself abstract photographs by setting your camera to have a long exposure and move your camera around while taking the photograph to give an abstract rendering of the object. Try playing with lights or objects with bright colors to give stunning results. Upload the photographs to your computer, and you can further enhance the color saturation and brightness to give bold colored prints which you can print on your home computer. The total cost of the entire project would be less than a dollar, as the only expense is the photo paper being used to print your photographs at home or at a print shop. Pick your favorite color and a metallic accent color, in this example by Stephanie at Two Zero One it is pink and gold, and create your own bold abstract painting. For this project you will need to a few different shade of your main color which is to be dragged along the top 3/4 of the painting using a paint brush. It is important to layer the various shades of the color in vertical strokes while the paint is still wet so that there isn't harsh lines. Once the paint has dried apply the metal paint onto a small palate knife and thickly, and slightly randomly create palate knife prints of paint between the edge of the main color and the original white of the canvas. If you lack a palate knife, using the back of a plastic knife would work as well. After the paint has dried use spray paint gloss over the entire painting to protect and finish the artwork from sun damage. This black and white abstract painted is created by painting brushstrokes downwards to help form the little lines and drips. For best results takes a larger paintbrush that only has a small amount of paint which will create the longer paint brush trails. Rotate the canvas occasionally, and build light layers of paint until 2/3 of the canvas is covered with black paint. Tanya suggests that if you have an old painting you can simply cover it with paint primer, as she did, and pick up some black paint to create this black and white abstract painting.
