How to Get Unemployment Benefits in Florida

    • 1). Go to the website for The Agency for Workforce Innovation at http://www.floridajobs.org/unemployment/index.html.

    • 2). Scroll down the unemployment Web page, and choose either the "Claim Form in English" or another language of your choice.

    • 3). Read the notice on unemployment fraud, and click to check the box next to "I Acknowledge That I Understand This Statement and Wish To Continue To File My Claim." Click "Submit."

    • 4). Click the radio button next to "Yes" or "No" to answer whether you are filing for unemployment for yourself or someone else. If you need help with this, someone can help you; you just have to let the unemployment agency know. Click "Submit."

    • 5). You will be prompted to enter your ZIP code, and then taken to a page where it tells you the information you will need to file your unemployment claim. You will need employer names and addresses, Social Security number for yourself, gross earnings from your job, driver's license information or Alien Registration form if you are not a citizen. You then click in the boxes, "I have all the information available," and "I have read the above statement." Then click on "I agree." You must check all boxes to continue with an employment compensation claim.

    • 6). Read all the acknowledgments, and click to check the boxes next to all four of them. Click "I Agree."

    • 7). Enter your Social Security number on the next page, and click on "Click Mouse Here to Proceed," located at the bottom of the page.

    • 8). Answer general information questions about your job and military status, which you answer honestly. You then move on to personal information, including name, address, educational background, whether you have a disability and more. Answer everything truthfully.

    • 9). State reasons for job loss, and you will get a call from a worker at the unemployment agency asking you to tell your side of the story. They will also let your former employer tell his side. They will then decide if you are eligible for unemployment benefits.
