How to Take the Floor Out of a Lund Boat
- 1). Remove any loose objects from the floor of the boat and set them aside. Look at the bottom of the seats and determine if they are attached to the floor with screws or bolts. Most Lund boats have bolts holding the seats down. Loosen the front bolts located on each side with an adjustable wrench. Locate the back bolts on each side and remove them in the same manner. Pull up to remove the seat. Repeat the process for any other single swivel seats in the boat.
- 2). Remove the perma ply bench seating in the same manner. Locate the screws or bolts holding it in place and remove them with an adjustable wrench or power drill. These bolts will be located on each end and in the middle, along the floor of the boat. Have a helper hold the seat in place while you remove the bolts, so it does not fall on you.
- 3). Step into the boat and inspect the flooring that is already installed. Some Lund boats have carpet, while others have vinyl flooring. Remove the top layer of carpet first. Cut along the edge of the boat around the carpet with a utility knife, to loosen the carpet. Pry up all of the carpet on the floor -- first with the utility knife -- then begin pulling it up by hand, until it is all removed.
- 4). Remove the vinyl flooring, if your boat does not have carpet. Slide a pry bar underneath the vinyl along the edge of the boat. Pull up very carefully, so you do not damage the boat. The vinyl will be attached to the flooring underneath with an adhesive. Move the pry bar down -- along the bottom of the boat -- and continue pulling up, until the edges are loose.
- 5). Peel off the vinyl by hand. Move around the entire area of the boat, pulling up on the vinyl, until it is removed from the floor. Sweep off the surface with a broom and dustpan. Remove all of the debris leftover from the carpet or vinyl flooring.
- 6). Determine the type of subflooring on your boat. Some are made of wood and others are made of fiberglass. Locate all of the screws holding the wood flooring in place and remove them with a power drill. The heads of the screws will be easily visible, even if they are sunk into the wood. Start on one end of the boat and work towards the other, loosening all of the screws and pulling up the wood floor boards one at a time, until they are all removed and the floor has been completely taken out.
- 7). Remove the rivets from the fiberglass floor of the boat. Some Lund boats are made of fiberglass, which is installed with pop rivets. Press a punch up against the rivet and hammer down slightly on the punch to remove the nail from the center of the rivet. Press a Phillips head drill bit up against the rivet and drill out what remains with a power drill. Repeat the process all the way around the boat, until the rivets are removed and the fiberglass is removed.
