  • Year of Assessment (YA): According to Singapore Tax Laws the Year of Assessment (YA) is considered to be from 1st of January to 31st of December i.e. the Calendar year and the tax is payable on the basis of the income of the previous year, thus for the income earned from 1st of January 2012 to 31st of December 2012, the tax will have to be paid in the year 2013. The tax is paid annually.
  • The tax payable is based on the source principle which means only that income earned at Singapore or it may have been derived from overseas but received in Singapore will be liable for tax payment. However there is an exemption for any income arising from sources outside Singapore and received in Singapore on or after 1st January 2004, by an individual (other than partners of a partnership)
