How to Get Pen Stains Out
- 1). Place a stack of clean paper towels on a table or ironing board.
- 2). Place the fabric on the paper towels with the ink stain facing up.
- 3). Pour rubbing alcohol around the stain but not on the stain, the Oregon State University Extension recommends, to stop the stain from bleeding and spreading.
- 4). Turn the fabric over and place the stain against the paper towels. Pour rubbing alcohol directly onto the stain.
- 5). Use more clean paper towels to blot at the ink, adding more rubbing alcohol as necessary, until you remove most of the ink. Rinse the stain thoroughly with lukewarm water.
- 6). Apple a stain pre-treater if you have one on hand. Wash the garment according to the label instructions, adding a color-safe bleach to the soak and wash cycles.
- 7). Examine the garment after washing but before drying. Repeat the above steps if any sign of ink remains. If no ink remains, dry the garment. Note that drying a garment with remaining ink stains will likely lock in those stains.
