How to Repair PVC Schedule 80
- 1). Mark the Schedule 80 PVC pipe six inches away on each side the damaged area -- use a felt tip pen. Cut through the pipe using a hacksaw. A power saw will make a better cut, if there is room. Make the cut straight, and remove plastic burrs with a utility knife.
- 2). Measure between the two pipe cuts; cut a new piece of Schedule 80 PVC pipe to this length, and remove any burrs.
- 3). Apply PVC primer around one existing pipe end, and the inside of a straight PVC coupling. Prime one end of the new piece of pipe. Wait 30 seconds for the primer to dry.
- 4). Push a flexible rubber coupling fully onto the end of the unprimed existing pipe end.
- 5). Apply PVC cement to all primed areas. Push the coupling onto the glued existing pipe end, and the glued end of the new pipe into the other end of the coupling. Hold in place for 30 seconds, while the cement sets.
- 6). Push the rubber coupling onto the end of the new piece of pipe -- half of the coupling will be on the new pipe end, and half on the existing pipe end. Tighten the metal hose clamps around each end of the rubber coupling, using a screwdriver.
