How to Use Molasses for Cleaning
- 1). Cover your work surface with old newspapers. Molasses is extremely sticky, clinging to nearly any type of surface, and is difficult to remove.
- 2). To dilute the stickiness of the molasses, combine 9 parts water with 1 part molasses in a large plastic or metal bucket.
- 3). Submerge the rusty object in the molasses mixture, completely covering the rusty spots.
- 4). Check the object once every few days. You should notice the rust begin flaking off, but it may take up to two weeks or longer for the rust to completely dissolve.
- 5). Remove the object from the molasses mixture, and clean it with a soft towel. Use metal cleaner to remove any leftover traces of the mixture.
