Cleaning tools can make cleaning homes and buildings easier. Tools that speed the cleaning process assure building managers that the interior or exterior environments are safe, so these tools play an important role in home and building safety. Besides powered heavy-duty tools, some chemicals are powerful tools to remove dirt, bacteria and germs. Cleaning tools are used in virtually all environments to assure the health and safety of living things, including animals and pets.

    Steamers

    • Steamers are products that heat water that is held in tanks and pressurizes the water into steam. When the stream of steam hits soiled surfaces, it not only sterilizes them, but it removes the stain from the surfaces. Chemical cleaners may be unnecessary with steamers since the combination of steam and pressure is enough to remove most stains and soil, including oil-based deposits or hard water deposits. Steamer appliances might use different attachments to coax the stain or deposit off the surface, like stiff brushes or nozzles that concentrate the steam, creating more pressure.

    Pressure Washers

    • Pressure washers use water to knock deposits off surfaces with high pressure. The pressure washers are used primarily outdoors. They combine water with air pressure to dislodge dust and dirt. The intensity of a pressure washer is measured in gallons per minute. Commercial pressure washers can remove serious stains because of their power. Domestic pressure washers use gas or electricity to work. The compressors have connections to hook a water hose. A compressor inside the pressure washer compresses air and when combined with the water flow from the hose, the water has considerable force.

    Floor Cleaners

    • Floor scrubbers combine floor cleaners with brushes or pads to loosen soil from hard surface floors. These cleaners are used in institutional settings. Homeowners can use small versions of floor scrubbers to clean floors thoroughly and quickly. Besides floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners use cleaning fluids or steam to clean soiled carpets. Manufacturers make small residential units that people rent or buy to clean their carpets on a regular basis.

    Chemical Cleaners

    • Besides cleaning appliances, cleaning tools include chemicals that remove dirt and stains. Dilute chlorine bleach not only removes water-soluble stains, it also kills viruses and bacteria. Even in the dilute state, chlorine is a powerful chemical and needs to be used with care. When combined with ammonia, the gas created can be toxic. Safer cleaners include vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda.
