Affiliate Marketing...Getting to The Real Truth About Internet Marketing

Once Upon a Time...I was a dishwasher, house painter, moving man, out-of-work rocket scientist, etc., etc., etc. These sad tales of woe lead-in to many of the e-books we spend good money on, only to find out that the "Once Upon a Time" should have been used but wasn't.

My guess is that very few affiliate marketers HAVE NOT been given the proverbial trip down memory lane that leads to nowhere.

I started my home business believing that here at last was a method to make a little extra honest money. Well if everyone involved in Internet Marketing was honest-that would be true. Unfortunately that is not always the case.

I am impressed by one fact; there are lots of people out there that have a generous gift of gab. Most of their sales (pitch) pages run on so long that by the time the reader gets to the end of it, you have forgotten whose page it was and what they are selling.

I am in the process of writing my own e-book, because many of the gurus say that's where the real money can be found. And I swear that when it comes time to write my sales page-it will tell people what I have to offer, how it will benefit them, and how much it will cost.

No, I will not hire a copywriter to do it for me. Most of what I've seen tells me that most of them are following the same guidelines: Dazzle them. Razzle them. Snow them under with so much verbiage that the reader will succumb to all the hype and hyperbole that they'll just click on the Order button because they have had enough.

The Internet is changing and many long-time, successful marketers tell us that it is a daily struggle to keep up with the changes. I can see that.

During the few months I have been active as an affiliate marketer I have seen countless Totally New, Super-Secret, Incredibly Profitable, Once-In-A-Lifetime offers that if I bought half of them, I'd have to sell my home in favor of living in a tent at some local campground.

But the Internet itself can provide an avenue to get some basic ideas about what is an honest attempt to give you enough information to setup and run an Internet marketing business-and what may just lead you down a rabbit hole...Once Upon a Time!

Some years ago I was a criminal investigator. How I wish the Internet existed back then. But now the chief investigator is a guy named Google and he can dig up all sorts of stuff about people. Sure, you can pay a fee on many sites that will run a background check. But before you do that, try googling the name.

Here's and example, google me, "Don Penven," with the quotes and see what you get. At this moment Google shows: About 6,230 results (0.44 seconds). Even Google admits that this number is not always accurate, as it seems to vary from day to day. But you'll have to admit that I have a healthy number of backlinks. The number one item on the standard search is my website: donpenven.com.

Got that, I'm number 1 on Google.

I could also type in the title of some of the many articles I have posted on my favorite article directories and they will come in number 1 too.

The point I'm making here is that you can do the research before you go entering your credit card number. Google the name of the person selling the get-rich-quick scheme. If you can't find a name-let the buyer beware. Of course he may have made up the name you see just for this specific promotion. That's how bad it can get out there.

To the "newbie" affiliate: You have my thoughts and prayers and best wishes for success. It is indeed a jungle out there...so be careful!

If this article is giving you second thoughts and you are wondering, "What have I gotten myself into?" take heart, there are lots of honest people plying their products on the Internet. Please don't give up! It will pay dividends if you will get some basic training and learn How To Do It. You really have no reason to trust me at this point. If you googled me you'll see that no one seems to be angry with me for any reason. That's always a good sign. Check out my website at the link below.
