Kids who love the outdoors may want to host a bug party for all their friends. Invite them to join you at your house, or hold the birthday bash in a park. If the party is outdoors, you can blow bubbles and have the guests try to pop the bubbles with their own fly swatters. - Invite your guests into the party by creating a black spider web for them to step through. Use thumbtacks to weave black yarn on your door frame. Leave the center section open. Hang plastic bugs throughout the web.
Purchase six green helium balloons and one yellow helium balloon to make a caterpillar. Connect the balloons with tape in a row. Draw a face on the yellow balloon and let it float around the room, or tie it over the food table.
Cover the walls around the room with giant green leaves cut from poster board. Let the kids color paper bugs to tape on the leaves. - Party guests can go bug hunting. Before the party, hide several plastic bugs throughout the party area. Hand them each a list of bugs to find. Draw a picture or add a photograph of each bug if they are not readers. Let them gather the bugs in a plastic bug jar or a paper lunch sack.
Play guess the bug. Place a bug sticker or photo of a bug on the back of each child. The object of the game is to discover what creature is on them by bugging each other with questions that only have a yes or no answer.
Place several bugs, other small toys, coins or kitchen items on a tray. Show the tray to the party guests and let them study it for a minute. Take the tray away and remove one item. Show it to the children again and see if anyone can discover what item is missing. - Tie party favor bags filled with chocolate insects, toys and other novelty items to a 20-foot piece of yarn. Hide the favor bags and string the yarn around pieces of furniture. Each piece should end in a central spot and have a guest's name on it. At the end of the party, the guests find their name and follow the yarn trail to their party favor bag.
- Create a no-bake birthday cake following the theme of a bug party. Start with a clean flower pot, aluminum foil and fake flowers. Line the flower pot with foil, being sure to cover the drainage holes. Prepare chocolate pudding mix according to instructions on the box. Stir in crushed chocolate sandwich cookies once pudding is set. Fill the pot with half the pudding, adding crushed cookies to the top. Make another layer with whipped topping and cream cheese whipped together. Add the rest of the pudding and more crushed cookies. Add gummy worms or other edible candy bugs and then stick fake flowers into the pot to finish.
