How to Make Some Extra Cash During a Recession (and Reduce Clutter at the Same Time!)
- 1). Clean out storage closets and other rooms where excess clothing, electronics or furniture collects in your home. When you pick a closet or room to clean out, remove everything from that area.
- 2). Sort through the stuff you have emptied out of the closet or room. Sort items into groups to keep, to sell and to discard. Make a decision on every item the first time it enters your hand.
- 3). Post items for sale as you complete each area you are cleaning. Set reasonable prices for your items and post them on free Internet classified boards or community bulletin boards. Local newspapers may offer low-cost classified listings where you can post items for sale.
- 4). Continue to sort through one room at a time. If you come to a point where you are selling a lot of furniture, clothing or household items, set them aside for a yard sale.
- 5). Advertise the yard sale on the same free classifieds that hosted your items for sale. Post the advertisement multiple times in the week leading up to your yard sale.
