Directions for Proper Diaper Changing
- 1). Lay the baby on a sturdy, flat surface. Keep one hand on the baby at all times in case he rolls.
- 2). Give the baby a soft toy to play with or to distract an older baby. Remove the baby's lower garments such as pants or bodysuit snaps.
- 3). Undo the tabs on the diaper and place a cotton cloth over a little boy's penis so he doesn't pee on you or the table.
- 4). Lift the baby's legs with one hand and pull the dirty diaper out from under the baby. Set aside. Wipe the baby with a baby wipe from front to back. Set the dirty wipes on top of the dirty diaper. If baby has a rash, apply diaper rash ointment at this time by applying a bit of ointment with your finger over the affected area.
- 5). Place a new diaper under baby's bottom. Remove the cotton cloth and pull the front of the diaper up over the baby's privates. Pull the tabs out and tighten around baby's midsection. Be sure it's not too tight, just secure.
- 6). Redress baby. Keeping a hand on the baby throw the dirty diaper and wipes in a trashcan.
