Comedian Humberto Meza Fights Polio with Laughter

"There are no limits to success," says Humberto Meza.  May seem like something you've heard before but how many people truly believe it and live by it?  Stricken with Polio as a young boy, Meza has grown into a successful and motivating comedian who has moved many people and not just with laughter.  Currently working the Los Angeles circuit, Meza is becoming one of LA's promising up and coming talents you are sure to hear about soon enough.

Born in Santiago Nayarit, Mexico, Meza was diagnosed with polio at a very early age.  Polio is a viral infection that can lead to paralysis and even death.  Living in Mexico, Meza was exposed to airborne polio, which was not uncommon at the time.  His mother was unable to afford the proper healthcare so the disease was beginning to win its battle against the toddler.  While visiting her family in Mexico, Meza's aunt noticed the boy struggle as he dragged himself across the floor unable to use his legs.  Realizing he would have no
chance if she left him behind, she brought him back with her to San Jose,
California, adopted him and saw him through a challenging and sometimes painful
childhood.  "If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be where I am right now," says Meza of his aunt.  "My aunt and her husband took me in and loved me as their own child, maybe even more. "

The battle wasn't easy and the family was faced with their share of set-backs.  At one time Meza was even pronounced dead following surgery to remove damaged tissue.  But he pulled through and seeing his glass as half full, Meza now walks (though with a limp) away from his sorrow and on to a stage of laughter.

Meza moved to Los Angeles in 1998 with hopes of making it in Hollywood.  He developed a love for acting and producing and worked on projects such as, The Princess of Salsa, Crossings, Dolorosas, and The Journey, which won three independent feature film awards in
2008.  While he proved he has what it takes in the film industry, it would be stand-up comedy that would give Meza his true purpose in life.

In 2005 an acting buddy suggested Meza DJ a comedy show.  Mingling with all the comedians who attended the show, Meza decided it was time to produce his own comedy shows and book his own talent.  But he still wasn't quite ready to walk across the stage and face his fears.   "I was afraid of failure," says Meza.  "I was insecure of my leg.  I was insecure
of how I looked walking up to the stage with my limp."  But after three years of producing shows, Meza knew it was time to follow his passion or the dream might slip away
forever.  After much collaboration, he has created a routine that puts all of his heart, soul and even polio right out there in plain sight.  He makes fun of himself and all of his struggles.  And
the audience loves it.  His family friendly show, 2 Crazy Comedy, which is currently showcased in Los Angeles, has been getting great reviews.  Now Meza is looking to use his talent to benefit charities in hopes of helping others who may not realize there are no
limits if you believe in yourself and just push forward.  As a father, producer and comedian, Meza continues to persevere through laughter and the joy of connecting with others.
