ZOEgirl Interview
< Continued from page 3
Guide - Are you ever tempted to sign your husband up for music lessons? (laughs)
Kristin - We joke about it all of the time. (laughs) It's like "ok Ryan you need to learn to play something". It's funny.
Guide - Is there anything in particular that God has been teaching you lately that you'd like to share?
Kristin - Actually I've been reading a book called "Don't Waste Your Life" by John Piper. It's really amazing.
I'm only in the first few chapters. It's really bringing me back to the basics. The first two chapters are about living for your purpose and not wasting your life. He talks about how easy it is to do this, especially in this day and age. Our lives have to boast only in the Cross of Jesus Christ. He just reiterates that and it really started to drive it home for me. I wasn't made for me. I was made for God's glory, to glorify Him and to live for Him with everything. It sorta of recentered me as far as my purpose. That's what He's been showing me lately. I've even written a couple of songs from the inspiration that I've gotten so far.
Guide - I know that you've toured with Carman, Plus One, Avalon, Newsboys, to name a few. Who would you say that you've learned more from?
Kristin - We definitely learned from every experience. Our first tour was with Clay Crosse and it was very small. He was so good to us. There were 15 of us on a bus, which is a lot of people since a bus usually only sleeps 12.
He was such a humble man. We learned servanthood from him. He was just the nicest, most caring and humble man to learn from. Carman's tour was very big but he has a huge ministry and we got to see it reaching literally hundreds of people that were responding to the altar calls he gave. So we learned about the importance of giving that opportunity. From the Newsboys we learned a lot as well. Those are some really solid men of God. They treated us really well. They were a great example. They've been together for over 10 years. They would impart things that they've learned and it made a huge impact on us and helped us shape the "Free Experience Tour". We were able to draw from all of the strengths that we saw.
Guide - Do you have any particular vice or weakness that you have to fight when you're on tour, like being able to eat all of the junk food that you want?
Kristin - The snacking is definitely one. People are so sweet and kind, bringing us cookies and donuts. Not to mention, being on the bus, watching movies, and wanting to just snack. So that's definitely something to work on, not eating too late. It's fun though. And it's so nice of people to think of us and bring the goodies.
Guide - I don't think that people generally recognize the discipline that it takes to be out on tour. They see the fun without the discipline behind it.
Kristin - Yes! It's easy to let things get mundane. You can find yourselves sort of in a rut where it's the next day and the next day. So things like staying in the Word and praying and having that time on my own with God can take work because before you know it, it can be time for the next show. So discipline is something that I've learned that I've got to have to be able to stay strong out there and to be able to have anything to give night to night.
Guide - It has been great talking to you. I appreciate you taking the time to talk with me on one of your rare off days.
Kristin - I appreciate the depth that you go into. Thank you so much. Take care Kim.
