Sesame Street Being Green - Overview

Elmo and the friendly fairy Abby Cadabby are surprised to run into Mr. Earth and his Earth-a-Thon happening right on Sesame Street. Confused about what an "Earth-a-Thon" is, the two friends stick around while Mr. Earth explains that the monsters are taking pledges from children all over the world who are calling with promises and plans to help the environment.

Elmo and Abby get excited about helping the earth too, but Abby goes a little crazy and accidentally turns Elmo green for real! While Abby figures out how to change Elmo back, Elmo takes advantage of his new color and is even more inspired to learn about the earth and what we can all do to take better care of it. Friends and kids from all over the world help Elmo and viewers see how fun it can be to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Sesame Street Being Green - Guide Review

Have you ever tried to explain the concept of the planet earth to a young preschooler? It's harder than you might think. I mean, the idea that we live on a huge ball floating in space is pretty abstract for those tiny and very literal minds. But never fear, Elmo is here! With their cheerful exuberance and childlike curiosity, Elmo and Abby are perfect pals for preschoolers, and in Being Green, the two friends make earth and "greenness" fun and friendly topics for kids.

In the beginning of the show, kids see a view of what earth looks like from space, and the view zooms in until a neighborhood and people can be seen.

Mr. Earth and other characters point out that earth is the planet we live on, and that we all share it together. Kids then learn that taking care of the earth is everyone's responsibility.

Great music and stories about how real kids in different areas of the world reduce, reuse and recycle make the DVD interesting as well as educational. And, influenced by Elmo and Abby's green enthusiasm, your kids will probably be running around trying to turn off lights and conserve water, so you just might see an additional benefit on your utility bills.
