How to Get Through the Dark Brotherhood Mission in the Sewer in 'Oblivion'
- 1). Kill someone innocent in order to get the invitation to join the Dark Brotherhood. Choose a non-essential non-player character, and then sleep. Lucien Lachance will visit and present you with the initiation quest.
- 2). Complete the first several quests for the Dark Brotherhood. After finishing Accidents Happen, return to Vicente Valtieri in the sanctuary to get the No Rest for the Wicked/Scheduled for Execution quest. Valtieri marks the sewer entrance on your map and gives you the key to the sewers.
- 3). Enter the sewer through the gate you exited at the end of the tutorial and follow your map to find the way to the prison.
- 4). Sneak through the sanctum door. Move cautiously, waiting for guards to move away or turn toward the wall if you want the bonus. An invisibility spell such as the Deathly Visage sold by M'raaj-Dar helps you move undetected through the area. A detect life spell also helps, and M'raaj-Dar sells two: Detect Pulse and the powerful Bloodhunt that detects life within 50 feet for 150 seconds.
- 5). Take your time and stick to the shadows to avoid detection from the guards. Replenish your invisibility spell if you use one immediately upon going through doors.
- 6). Listen closely as you reach your old cell. You will hear a guard chatting with Dreth about his impending release. Wait for the guard to leave before approaching the bars.
- 7). Kill Dreth. You can shoot an arrow or use destruction magic without opening Dreth's cell. If you want to use a sword, pick up the keys hanging on the wall, open the door and start swinging to be sure he does not escape.
- 8). Return to the Sanctuary for your reward. You can sneak back through the sanctum and sewers the way you came or take the keys, sneak up the stairs and enter the main area of the prison. That area is open to the public, so you can stop sneaking and not worry about being arrested for trespassing. Vicente awards gold. For not killing any guards, you get the bonus of the Scales of Pitiless Justice that gives strength, agility and intelligence bonuses of two points each but reduces personality by two, as well.
