How Do Catfish Know?

103 6
Anyone that has catfished for awhile can relate to these experiences.
The other week I was fishing for over two hours without a bite.
The sun was putting a glare on the water, so I decided to look for my sunglasses.
I picked up my fishing gear backpack and started opening it.
I had to look down into the different sections before I locate the sunglasses.
As I looked up I saw my rod just being whipped back and forth almost coming out of the rod holder.
I have never seen a rod hit so hard before, it took me a second or so before I reacted to get the rod out of the holder.
I picked it up expecting another hard run, nothing!I got the line back in and saw that the 30 pound test line had been snapped.
That reminded me of a trip with my brother.
We had no action for hours, so we decided to eat our lunch.
My brother just got his sandwich to his mouth when his rod bent over.
He dropped his sandwich and pulled back the rod.
He came up empty; needless to say the next words out of his mouth were not very friendly.
Sometimes the cats just want to tease you! They bite, tighten up the line then; just as you get set to pull they drop the bait.
They keep this up for longer than you can endure.
When you check your line, the bait is just hanging on by a thread or cleaned off.
I am certain nearly every person that fishes for catfish has similar stories.
Just how they know when YOU are distracted by something is beyond me.
