Alternatively travellers can spend their time admiring Sugarloaf Mountain from Rio's pristine beaches.
Holidaymakers travelling in July and August during European summer should head to Salvador, the capital of the northern state of Bahia.
Winter temperatures average 27C and above so visitors can spend a majority of their time enjoying the sun on the beaches on the southern side of Salvador.
Having been founded by the Portuguese in 1549 Salvador is full of interesting historical sites that can be visited between days and nights of enjoying Brazil's national festivals.
Anyone taking a trip to Salvador in August has the chance to gain an interesting insight into Afro-Brazilian culture during Festa do Boa Morte.
The festival of good death as it is known in English is a mix of West African and European religious influences.
Tourists can watch, or even take part in the dancing processions that weave through the streets to the beat of the drums.
History lovers can choose from Salvador's impressive range of museums or its ornate cathedral, built between 1657 and 1672.
Catedral basilica is one of the finest pieces of Portuguese baroque architecture anywhere in the world and should be seen by those doing a spot of sightseeing on their holidays to Brazil.
