Some Iconic Films And Their Locations.
New Zealand- New Zealand is a place of great beauty, rolling hills and greenery. But it was only really recognised by the masses when it was transformed into Middle Earth by the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
New York- New York has been the setting for countless films over the years, and it is not hard to see why. There is nothing understated about this city, and it is somewhere you have to visit at one point or another. Because it was too hard to narrow down to one, here are three films representative of the New York spirit- I warn you, they all lean slightly towards the romantic comedy side
- Breakfast at Tiffanys- Tiffany and Co., on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, has become incomparably famous over the years, and a proposal at the store itself has been replicated in more modern films. Once a set occupied by Ms. Hepburn, the store and area surrounding it has become a region of romance and magic.
- Sleepless in Seattle- where the Empire State Building was the meeting place of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, who made this amazing, imposing landmark even more visit-worthy than it already was.
- When Harry met Sally- Perhaps one of the most iconic funny scenes of all time, Katz's Deli in Manhatten was made famous for being the home of Meg Ryans hilarious episode.
California- Los Angeles is the home of shiny film sets, billion dollar actors and the Hollywood sign. It would be criminal not to mention a couple of the films we all know and love from the heart of movieland
- Grease- the Venice High School is Los Angeles was used as the site of Rydell High School in this well known teen musical.
- Mrs Doubtfire- Mrs Doubtfire is a film that any child growing up in the 90s will have seen plenty of times- and will remember the sloping streets of where it was filmed, in San Francisco. There on Steiner Street, Robin Williams and the rest of the Hillard family cast created a family classic. Whilst youre there, check out the Golden Gate Bridge, hop on a cable car, or visit the many museums, parks, and bay waterfront.
- Pretty Woman- The Las Palmas Hotel in Los Angeles was the location for Vivians hotel, and many people will know the scene in which Richard Gere drives up to the apartment in a limousine with opera music blasting in the backgroundif youre visiting Los Angeles and are a fan of this film, go and take a look outside the hotel and remember this famous scene like never before.
London- London is another location of great popularity for films. Like New York it has that element of drama, but perhaps in a slightly understated way.
- Harry potter- at Kings Cross Station the film that entranced a generation was shot. The station was home to Harry Potters platform 9 , making the station a magical place to visit, and London itself has many attractions to see, whether on a weekend break or longer.
- Notting Hill- the Hugh Grant film synonymous with its location. This romantic comedy made the Portobello Market area even cooler than it already was. Visit this location at the weekends to see the true spirit and hustle and bustle of a London market.
Paris- Paris is a city with romantic, cool and laid back connotations. As such it isnt surprising that it is the home of several successful films Amelie- The Caf des Deux Moulins on the Rue Cauchois in Paris has become famous for being the place where Amelie Poulain worked in the 2001 film. The caf is still in working order and has become somewhat of a shrine to the film, with images of Amelie on the walls and place mats. Visit this caf in Paris and relax in this working film set Inception- One of the most awe inspiring scenes in this big budget, impressive film was also set in a caf in Paris. At the Caf Debussy, Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page saw the streets of Paris distort before their eyes. Visit Paris to see all the magic it has to offer
Im afraid you may notice a slight bias towards the romantic in this selection of filmsbut hopefully, the locations are places that many will be able to appreciate and will bring back happy movie memories! I hope they inspire an excuse for an exciting getaway
