    • 1). Choose a spot in your garden that has full sun and well drained soil. If you are going to grow an acacia plant outdoors in Colorado, you must live in the warm desert region or the acacia will die during the winter. Pick an acacia plant that is native to the surrounding area so it will grow well in your yard.

    • 2). Dig a hole for the acacia about 3 feet wide and 1 to 2 feet deep. Place the acacia tree or shrub into the hole. Cover the hole with soil and pat it down well.

    • 3). Water the acacia plant well for 10 minutes. Allow the water to soak down to the tree or shrub's roots. Only water your acacia tree about once every week or two to prevent root rot.
