    Anniversary Adventures

    • Adventurous couples might plan something exciting such as a balloon ride or rafting. Even if it's not quite that daring of an adventure, sharing a new experience is a great way to spend an anniversary. So if you're the outdoorsy type but you've never tried horseback riding, fly fishing, hiking or ice skating, don't forget the video camera. You could invite another couple to come along and record the event for you.

    Memory Lane

    • Spend an evening strolling down memory lane. Pick up some wine and favorite appetizers or coffee and some fancy desserts Get out your wedding album and wedding video if you have one, along with all of your albums or boxes of photos. Play trivia, challenging each other to remember details of past events. For couples who have been married for a while, try to recall an event from each year you've been married.

    Potluck Anniversary Dinner

    • If family members or friends ask you what you would like for your anniversary, take advantage of their generosity. Ask for a potluck dinner or picnic with everyone contributing his or her specialty. For example, don't be afraid to ask Aunt Marcy to bring her pickled beets if that's a favorite. For those who don't cook or don't know what to bring, tell them to serve as organizers and providers of table service items.

    Celebrate with Tickets

    • If you're movie fans, buy some tickets and celebrate by seeing more than one movie on your special day. Splurge with sodas and popcorn if you don't normally do so. Or you might buy some tickets for a special upcoming event and celebrate your anniversary on that day. Whether it's a stage play or a rodeo, a concert or a baseball game, make sure it's something that you both want to do.

    Have Your Picture Taken

    • After their weddings, couples rarely have photos taken of just the two of them together. Arrange, as your gift to each other, to have a professional portrait done in a studio. Alternately, you might like to have a talented friend take your photo either at home or somewhere you consider special to your lives. Copies of that anniversary photo could be featured on your next holiday card or presented in frames to parents or grown children.
