White Rock Chiroractor Presents: "Spinal Decompression Therapy"
Traction therapy has been around for hundreds of years, in some forms. In more recent times, specifically in the early 1900's, an Osteopathic physician by the name of Dr. John McManis had developed a technique of traction on a table called the McManis table. This was a form of spinal decompression that was performed manually by the physician on the patient. It proved to be very successful in the reduction of herniated disc and spinal stenosis.
Traction therapies were used in hospital settings here in Canada until recently. It was not uncommon for patients to be sent to the hospital for a 2 week stay to undertake a course of spinal traction for an acute lower back pain disorder. The treatment was often very effective. Traction therapies are uncommon in hospital settings at present. They are still utilized in some hospitals in other countries.
Spinal decompression- traction was taken to a more sophisticated level by a Chiropractor named James Cox. This turn of events evolved over the later half of the 20th century. The technique became known as "Cox Distraction Manipulation." It is a very effective technique used widely in the Chiropractic profession today. We utilize this form of traction in our South Surrey location.
It has been in the last decade or so that the evolution of traction has taken us to be known as "Spinal Decompression Therapy". We also use Spinal Decompression in our Surrey location. The big difference between Spinal Decompression and all other tractions is that Spinal Decompression is unattended and is computer driven. Because it is computer driven the table can do much more in terms of patient treatment. The results with this type of treatment is that 84% of patients are quite satisfied with the outcome.
We use Spinal Decompression in our Surrey location for the treatment of spinal stenosis and disc herniation problems. It is also successful in treating problems associated with osteoarthritis and lower back problems not responding to conventional techniques. This technique can also be utilized on the cervical spine or neck region.
In the treatment of disorders by Spinal Decompression, other techniques are also employed to take care of the patient. Cold laser to reduce inflammation and enhance healing is also often used. Spinal alignment and Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy is utilized. Also, nutritional advice and rehabilitative exercise are employed.
