What is a panic attack? You go through overwhelming feeling of fear and anxiety about something real or imaginative when you suffer from an episode.
You simply feel likes dying or unable to breathe as usual.
If you suffer from panic attack without any apparent reason, don't worry you are not alone many others also experience the same thing.
Some people have only once episode whilst others may have recurring ones.
Panic will normally crop up in places likes subway, air plane, bus and places where there is no easy mean of escape and make you feel unsecured.

Who gets panic attacks? 10% of our population suffers from panic but most of them are either undiagnosed or under diagnosed.
People who are under undue pressure are more often prone to have panic.
Even children suffer from panic attack or anxiety disorder.
Based on studies, female are having a higher chance of getting panic as compared to male.
In some cases, panic attack can also be inherited.
How do I know if I am having an attack? Panic attack usually causes you to have different signs and symptoms which include racing heartbeat or palpitation, sweating, a choking sensation, stomach cramp, de-realization, fear of losing control or going crazy, fear of dying, hot flashes and etc.
Some symptoms of panic attacks are similar to a heart attack.
As such knowing your real condition is very important as panic attack is harmless but the heart attack can be deadly.
You are advised to seek help from medical doctor as soon as after you had panic attack for the first time.
What cause an attack? There are many causes and triggers for the panic attacks.
Traumatic experiences or some changes in life may also be one of the contributors.
Alcohol, medication and drug withdrawal, negative self-talk, mistaken beliefs, lack of assertiveness and withheld emotions can all lead to panic.
What should I do during an attack? You should know what the symptoms and triggers are before you can really begin to cure panic attack.
Panic normally last from 5 to 10 minutes but it is horrifying.
As racing heartbeat is usually the root cause for other symptoms, you have to be calm and steady then control your breathing.
Place one hand on your upper chest whilst another on your abs.
You may now begin to do diaphragmatic breathing and giving a short pause when you breathe in and breathe out.
In short, count one to three when you breathe in, pause, and count one to three when you breathe out.
Do it at a constant rhythm and be calm and relax.
Repeat this process few times till you can really calm down.
You may want to stand up and walk around slowly if possible.
Besides, it would also be very useful to breathe into a plastic or a paper bag as you re-breathe your carbon dioxide to correct your blood acid level.
By doing the breathing steps above, you should be able to concentrate on your breathing and avoid the intrusive thoughts.
You may want to think about the happy memories or occupy your mind with solving puzzle or playing word games.
The key objective here is to prevent your mind from thinking about the cause of panic which could worsen your situation.
