Florida Air Brake Certification
- Air brake certification in Florida allows a CDL holder to drive a vehicle equipped with air brakes. Air brake testing is offered to drivers getting any class of CDL, provided the vehicle they test in is equipped with air brakes.
- Drivers seeking air brake certification must take the air brake written knowledge test and then complete a driving skills test in a vehicle that is equipped with air brakes. The skills test consists of three sections, a pre-trip inspection, basic vehicle control and on-road driving. CDL applicants must demonstrate their ability to use air brakes correctly in all three sections to be certified to drive a vehicle with air brakes.
- Florida does not require CDL holders from other states or Canada to become re-certified when moving to Florida. In addition, drivers who hold a CDL from the military may present a "Certification for Waiver of Skill Test for Military Personnel" and be exempt from the skills testing requirements, though they still must take the air brakes written test to be certified.
