How to Clean Broken Glass Off Carpet
- 1). Wearing thick gloves, pick up any large pieces from the carpet.
- 2). Vacuum the area thoroughly.
- 3). Lay strips of duct tape in overlapping rows over the area at least 2 to 3 feet outside of the area where you think there may be glass.
- 4). Smooth out and press down on the tape before removing it.
- 5). If you still think there may be glass in the area, use a piece of fresh bread and press it down over the area or repeat Steps 2 through 4.
- 1). Because fluorescent bulbs contain mercury, they should be handled differently. Wait at least 15 minutes before doing anything. Open a window in the room and remove yourself, along with any children and pets, from the room. Also, turn off your central air conditioning or heating unit during this time.
- 2). Wearing gloves, pick up any large fragments and place them in a sealed plastic bag or glass jar with a lid.
- 3). Lay overlapping strips of duct tape in rows over the area at least 2 to 3 feet outside of the area where you think there may be glass. Smooth out and press down on the tape before removing it.
- 4). Fold the tape so the sticky sides are together and place into the plastic bag or glass jar with the other glass. Use a separate bag if necessary.
- 5). If necessary, vacuum the area. Immediately remove the vacuum bag and place it in a sealed plastic bag. If you have a canister vacuum, empty the canister into a plastic bag and seal it. Then wipe out the canister.
