This most basic component that leads both children and adults with ADHD down to path to underachievement is disorganization.
You are probably screaming "What about inattention!".

Disorganization impacts every facet of a person life.
An individual with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder struggles with scattered thoughts, poor time management, messy spaces, and the seemingly endless list of unfinished projects.

*Getting your thoughts organized: If you have ADHD or know someone who does you know that abstract thoughts race through their minds at breakneck speed.
They battle with scattered thinking, forgetfulness, an inability to think things through, as well as other symptoms that emerge from an unfocused mind.

The simplest solution is implementing one of the current gadgets (PDA etc...
) to write down ideas, assignments and appointments.
Train your child to write them down as soon as possible before they are lost in that cornucopia of every changing ideas.
*Completing projects: I know an ADHD adult who has had at least 5 home improvement project going at once for the last ten years.
Part of the problem is that she fails to break it down before diving in.
For instance she may start painting the trim only to recognize 2 weeks later that it is a 3 month job.
Now she has a dilemma, because you can't leave only a portion painted but yet her ADHD once allow her to stay focus long enough to complete her project in a reasonable amount of time.
So the solution is to put it on the back burner until it becomes exciting again.
Now if our female home improvement enthusiast would have broken her massive project down into a number of small steps she would have had a good chance to complete the task at hand.
Let's see how to deal with ADHD as it applies to your child's book report.
Let's stretch our imagination and say that your child has been able to stay focused long enough to read the book.
The first step would be to help them create an outline that encapsulates the ideas that they want to cover in the report.
Then help them to work on each piece so that each one becomes the their primary focus.
By breaking it down into small enough pieces they will be able to use their natural creativity to write while not losing interest.
Additionally, often times ADHD personalities can't get started on big projects.
They look at them as an unpleasant tasks that just aren't worth doing.
By breaking these projects down you will have eliminated many of the barriers to entry and dramatically improved the overall chances of completion.
What else? For those struggling with how to deal with ADHD finding an effective treatment option might be something worth considering.
The most common form of treatment are prescription stimulants such as Ritalin, Adderall and Vyvanse.
While effective, all stimulant medications come with a number of serious label warnings.
The risk of side effects, or perhaps lack of success with stimulants, has prompted many to investigate other options.
A couple examples of this are behavior modification therapy and/or natural remedies.
Natural remedies for ADHD are a side effect free way to address such problematic symptoms as inattention, distractibility, impulsivity, erratic behavior and hyperactivity and can be used both as a standalone treatment or as a compliment to other nonprescription alternatives.
